[GIVEAWAY] Embark on an Asian Gastronomic Voyage at STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar, Bay Hotel Singapore

If you happens to be travelling from Sentosa, or just near the Harbourfront area, I presume most of us will find an eating outlet at Vivocity because of the tons of choices there. But then again, almost every restaurant is packed to the brim, especially during the dining hours. A queue is inevitable and for people like myself, who are not particularly fond of queues, I would be seeking to find a place that I could rest my legs and have a decent course, hopefully in the shortest time possible.

And just a stone’s throw away, I found this place ! Located opposite Vivocity is a relatively new hotel known as the Bay Hotel which has been around for 2 years. However, the restaurant establishment has only been set up early this year, therefore it is still quite foreign to many of us. STREET 50 Restaurant & Bar is the name for it.

Most hotels buffets are offered on a spread of international cuisine, but at STREET 50, the specialization is generally geared towards the Asian creations.

Attractively priced at SGD25++ for its lunch buffet which are only available during the weekends, this is a good alternative for families to head down for lunch, after their weekly groceries shopping at the nearby hypermart. Especially waiting for queues for big groups can be exasperating, STREET 50 is available on a walk-in basis, so you can be assured of a shorter waiting time for your food. What’s more, for every 2 paying adults, a kid get to dine for free, so that’s pretty awesome for the families with children.

One of the speciality of the buffet is the Chilli Crayfish which resembles our local signature Chilli Crab paste but having it on crayfish instead of crab this time. And because the crayfish has been conveniently sliced, we could easily enjoy it without having the need to get our hands all  messy. Well, I think I gotten quite addicted to the crayfish such that I had more servings of it than any of the other cuisine.

The Chilled Scallops with Nahm Jim sauce is supposedly to be another favourite among the diners. Supposedly to be the restaurant’s speciality sauce, it comes generously with both scallops and mussels for a different twist. On a sourish-sweet note, it made good appetizers to begin your meal with.

Changes on a weekly basis, this work station serves an authentic Malay cuisine known  as the Roti Jala when I was there. It resembles some kind of crepes with net holes and has a succulent coconut flavour.

Made fresh on the spot, the Roti Jala is best eaten with some spicy curry to complement the rich aroma all together.

The Smoked Duck in Crepe Roll is a fast grabber at the buffet, probably for its daintiness where they could be easily consumed at one go, especially subconsciously when you could be so engrossed in chatting with your pals and “snacking” on it at the same time.

Other items on the buffet spread worthy of a try !! And well, Singaporeans are generally blessed with a wholesome lot of good foods around us and many probably made better and more versatile foodies than me… so I guess I need not say more for the below….just be indulged in the pictures galore and prepared to crack your heads on your next meal setting !

For the wide spread of Nonya Kuehs available as desserts, my heart would still goes out to the Durian Pengat. Made of fresh durian pulps and blend into smoothness, the Durian Pengat carries a strong pungent of richness and if you were to consume any other desserts thereafter, it would just probably overwrite your taste buds in all. So be reminded to save the best for the last… ^-^

Here’s a little suggestion. Wrap the Durian Pengat with these mini pancakes and you could be enjoying Durian Pancakes away. A little imagination goes a long way in creating that absolute out of the box dessert.
