Crystal Jade Jiang Nan @ Vivocity

Just a short post on a recent mini indulgence. It was team building day at the company. After an exhausting 1.5 hours outdoor “Amazing Race” on island Sentosa, we were dropped at Vivocity at the end of the session.
Well conveniently then, I convinced Mr Chunky to have a mini feast at Crystal Jade Jiang Nan because I was really attracted by the multi-coloured Xiao Long Bao in the showcase and menu.
It’s a relatively new place, more of a casual dining experience as compared to its other outlets. We were starving to bits, so instead of the usual La Mien specialty which the menu endorses, we opt to have some main courses to go with plain rice instead.
Of course not forgetting, the main reason why I patronize the place, the multi-colored Xiao Long Bao as a starter.

Presentation wise definitely scores. In my humble opinion, most of the xiao long bao tasted similar to the original favour, except for the distinction of spicy chicken/beef, cheese and custard, And be sure to eat these while they are steaming hot, else the skin will turn hard upon cooling !
Anyway I guess we always like to do things out-of-the-box, while everyone is having the store’s speciality Jiangnan dishes, we had food served to our own liking instead. 
Here are some of the other dishes we had…
Sauteed beef with Garlic and Mushrooms 金蒜珍茵爆牛肉
The garlic were fried to a crisp and beef cooked to a good tender. However, beef slices were not alot, instead embedded were a good amount of mushrooms and black fungus.
Ma Po Dou Fu 陈麻婆豆腐
Extremely spicy, so not for the faint hearted ! Goes well with good old plain rice, ability to finish up the rice easily with this dish alone. 

Salted Egg Yolk Prawns 黄金紫沙虾球

Have a closer look. Not all you see are fat juicy live prawns. Instead, deep fried egg plant coated in salted egg yolk are placed together. Nevertheless, you can never go wrong with anything salted egg yolk. :) Don’t say I am bias ok… It’s my all-time-favourite anytime.

  2. wow, i would love to try those xiao long baos! are they very popular for their xiao long baos? i've never seen colourful ones like these..and so innovative flavours too! oh yeah, love salted egg very much, there's always salted eggs in my fridge. Dont even have to be fancy to cook with sated eggs, just the egg alone is also very tasty!

  4. Hihi Lena, yes this place is famous for the colorful xiao long bao ! Next time when you are in Singapore, remember to check it out. Yes, I agree with you, salted egg is good at all times. :)

  6. Whenever I am in Singapore I will go to Crystal Jade. Love the food there.
