Korean Pork Bulgogi 韩式炒辣肉

I had just left the workplace where many Korean restaurants are found accumulatively together. And I believe that one of my greatest miss from the old workplace is that I will miss the Korean food there where we often had our around $10 Korean set lunches. Because of that, I try to cook up more Korean fare at home nowadays to make up for that miss and also make myself sick of Korean food for the time being so that I will not miss them for a long time ! Talking about reverse psychology, this must be it !!

I always love the highly prized Korean set lunches around Amoy Street where we get to indulge in one set lunch with free flow of small dishes to go along. And one of the most highly anticipated set lunch is the Korean Pork Bulgogi. So here I am, preparing it directly from home and serving it on a hotplate too, exactly the feel from the Korean restaurant !! 

It’s essentially quite an easy feat to cook up. Slice the pork collar thinly, marinate and grill or stir fried and serving it alongside with sauteed onions and garnishing it with some sesame seeds.

Tadah ! Loving this dish always but hopefully I can move on to the new job without feeling emotional about the old workplace anymore !

Korean Pork Bulgogi 韩式炒辣肉

Ingredients
  • 300g pork collar, sliced thinly
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • Some white sesame seeds, for garnishing

For the Pork Marinade:
  • 1 tbsp Korean hot pepper paste (you can add more if u prefer more spicy)
  • ½ tsp Korean hot pepper flakes (you can add more if u prefer more spicy)
  • 1 tbsp light soya sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp water
Instructions
  1. Mix the pork with the marinade ingredients and set it aside in the fridge overnight.
  2. Heat up a frying pan and add in 1 tbsp of cooking oil. Saute the onions till they turn soft. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add in another 1 tbsp of cooking oil and stir fried the pork till they are cooked. (You can also grill them on a griller or a grilling pan.)
  4. If using a hotplate, heat up the hotplate with some oil. Place the sliced onions on the hot plate before topping it with the pork bulgogi.
  5. Garnish with white sesame seeds and serve hot.
Notes
You can replace the pork with chicken too !
