The Pride of a Barista @ Costa Coffee

I could never resist a coffee place whenever I see one. Especially one that comes with tall comfort couches, dim cozy lightning and distinctive coffee blends that never fail to impress. Whether you are coupled with a wholesome book to whine your lazy afternoon away, or some awesome friends’ chill-out gatherings, the relatively new Costa Coffee in Singapore is one worthy place of a serious consideration.

Costa Coffee currently has 3 outlets on its scorecard. For a coffee chain that has been established for less than a year in Singapore, that’s considered quite a feat. And there are more plans along the way to spawn the local scene with a double-digit number of outlets within this year. Consumers like myself have all the reason to shout for since we can be exposed to more superior coffee choices at an ideal location nearer to us. So I am in all awe of the expansion plans and yes, hoping that it will materialize soon !

Costa has imposed strict guidelines on the consistency and quality of its coffee, hence their Baristas have to undergo a series of ‘rigorous’ training, to the extent of passing an examination before they can be put on the job officially. You can essentially be sure of the same taste that you will be sipping, every time you pass by Costa for a visit. Stringent quality checks in place has also proven that Costa has set a good platform for itself to be an earnest coffee provider while providing consumers with utmost assurance of it as a premium brand in the market.

As one of the signature drink of Costa, the Flat White has captured the hearts of most coffee lovers with its smooth velvety texture and hand-finished distinctive pattern. Coffee appreciation has always been deem as pieces of art whereby they are produced from the heart and soul of the Barista behind each masterpiece. And looking at the Flat White itself, the above captioned shouldn’t be underrated all the more. Beautifully crafted and perfectly displayed for admiration.

For those who has a sweet tooth and looking for a pure refreshment, Costa’s series of Fruit Coolers make ideal options, of which the Mango Passion Fruit Cooler being the most highly raved about. Coming in real fruit concentrates, they act as superb cooling additives, especially during the dry spell.

Of course, nothing is made complete without some good food to complement the drinks. Costa currently offers a range of Premium Salads at a not-so-premium price. So fear not for your wallets ! Comprising of sous vide chicken breast, turkey bacon, shaved grana padano (one of the most popular kind of cheese in Italy!), herb croutons, egg, caesar dressing and a more than generous serving of fresh greens, these premium salads are sure to keep your waistline intact.

My pick for the day will be the Grilled Vegetable & Mushroom Panini. Best eaten served hot, the Panini is made up of slices of crisp  Maize Ciabata encompassing a variation of grilled button mushroom, shiitake mushroom, eggplant, onions and cheddar cheese. The sautéed mushrooms has a distinctive way of bringing out the freshness of the ciabatta in so doing, is quick to devour the hearts of several rumbling tummies.

And what’s life without desserts ? I was kept pre-occupied with the Double Chocolate Walnut Brownie with Ice Cream that quite stalled my focus. Warm, thick and very rich, the brownie tasted like one of those home-mades and not exactly something you gonna be dishing up from a factory kitchen. This delectable chocolate indulgence is made up of chunky walnuts, chocolate drops, quality French Vanilla Ice-cream and chocolate sauce.

The subtle cream cheese contents that made up the brownie cheesecake was another killer. Refreshingly light, the cheesecake does not give you the creeps even after having a whole chunk of it. Served to delight anyone who is not in favour of those ultra rich  and creamy-licious cheesecake.

The 4-layers tall English carrot cake pretty sums up our hearty meal for the day. The abundance of nuts and carrots added an extra crunch to the cake, and compiled with the sweetened cream cheese, is a match in heaven. Never too drying nor too moist as a result of the extra carroty bites, this carrot cake will certainly bring much fulfillment to those desiring a day-end dessert.

And if you are not sure of what to expect when you arrive at Costa, grab a hint from one of the wall posters where their signatures for the season shall be displayed and updated periodically. You will never go wrong with that.

And rather than addressing them as small, medium, big, these big words certainly make them look more exquisite and classy.

  1. Flat White taste just like diluted Milo. Overly stuffed with milk, not much coffee taste. Gave me bad stomach ache unfortunately. Unimpressive.
