Fiery HOT at The Square from Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel

If you guys have caught a glimpse of my previous posts, you would have known that I am a hardcore spice lover. Sambal, curry, basil, chilli padis, pepper, you name it, I love it. Hahaha. I guess that’s a quite a distinguish feature of Singapore cuisine, as most of our famous dishes are served deliciously hot, like chilli crabs, laksa, peppery bak ku teh, just to name a few.

However, shall we let our imagination run wild for once now and think creatively out of the box ?  Imagine having your Italian risotto rice dipped in laksa sauce ?  Or your favourite chocolate mousse served with cut chillies ? Or some fruity spicy syrup to go along with your home-baked cookies ? The list can just go on and on. Nevertheless, we don’t have to crack our heads re-inventing the will, when there’s somewhere that serve all these creative and delectable food at a single venue that I am pretty sure you won’t want to miss them out.

Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel has came up with a new menu offering, superbly themed at “Are you Hot Enough? “. Located at the Square restaurant, the dinner buffet is an exquisite display of international and fusion cuisine served alongside with lotsa spice and chillies in some of their feature dishes to complement the theme. And well, I should really give the place a thumbs up for the warm hospitality, friendly servers, mouth-watering display and last but not least, the eye opening experience on learning that spice can be utilised in several ways that I could never way imagined before this.

I was greeted by this beautiful display of desserts upon my arrival at the restaurant. And being a sweet-tooth person as usual, this section definitely appeals to me more than any other areas ! Did you see those dainty cups filled with various kinds of mousse and desserts ? They look like pieces of art rather than food, aren’t they ?

Shall we start off with something healthy like the salad bar for a starter ? You can actually mix and match your own salad with a wide range of condiments provided.

DSC_0951_edited

And if you just wanna save yourself from the work, readily available greens are provided too.

Though I am not a greenery’s fan,but the colourful display of the otherwise boring greens is certainly appealing and just make one wanna crave for some.

And as mentioned earlier, since its a fiery theme, look at the amount of dried chillies involved !

DSC_0927_edited

And the various spices concerned, cinnamon, star anise and cloves !

DSC_0992

Even the roast beef is served with chillies !! Not a common sight, isn’t it ? But the beef is atad too raw for my liking…

The ham is great though, with the texture kept at a good tenderness and moisture is locked in for a good succulent taste.

And well, what’s a fiery theme without all the spicy food ?

DSC_0978

Shall we start a game of “can you spot the spice here” ? Hahahah…. Yes… they are the yellow bell peppers !

DSC_0977

More yellow bell peppers ??

DSC_0976

 Red and Green Chillies !!

 Black Pepper !!!

My tummy is growling with hunger just by looking at these pictures alone.. aren’t you ??!!

Having been to several buffets, I must say the range of cuisine that the Square offers is indeed very extensive. Being a spice lover myself, I have no qualms about these food. The spicier, the better !  If you are someone like me, these food will surely widen your appetite and you might just have to gulp down more milk to extinguish the fire !

And you might ask what’s going to happen to the kids when the big ones are having their fiery meals ? Well, since it’s a buffet, I am sure there’s something for everyone to feast on.

DSC_0958_edited

Our very local delights… roast chicken, duck and pork…

DSC_0968_Edited

I am sure the kids will enjoy these.. creamy prawns served with corn flakes !! And what’s made amazing is that the corn flakes stay crunchy despite being embedded in the sauce ! Thumbs up !!

So whether you are a spice lover or not seems not of an apparent issue here anymore, right ? There’s just something for everyone to feast upon at the Square here.

Not forgetting some really authentic cantonese dim sum as well…. I love dim sum at anytime, so even though its a buffet spread, I can’t resist having a go at some of these spread though they can be very filling… :)

How about some Japanese sushi and fresh sashimi too ?

And hey hey hey… it’s not all end yet !! We are just like halfway through the list of food the Square serves.

Here comes the Seafood Galore ! Absolutely fresh oysters, mussels, prawns…are you just too hungry for words now ??

And for sure, how can we missed out these 2 spicy trademark dishes of the local cuisine ? Laksa and mee siam !! All condiments freshly prepared, cooked and served right before your eyes.

DSC_0949_Edited

And since it’s an international buffet, how can we missed out some delectable Italian cuisine as well…..

DSC_0950_Edited

We are served with Italian risotto rice in parmesan cheese and ….. hmmm…. laksa sauce ?? It’s really an east meet west dish, isn’t it… I was really taken aback with the versatility of laksa sauce…. and the combination may seemingly feels weird at the first instant… but as we indulge more bites, the richness of the rice with the spicy laksa favor starts to blend well and left our taste buds with a surprisingly good lingering taste.

Cod Fish served in laksa sauce. Frankly speaking, I am getting so sick of the usual style of cooking cod fish in teriyaki sauce and so, when this dish was presented, I totally enjoyed it. Presenting it in laksa sauce gives it a new enhancement with a different twist and aroma all together.

The cheese palate section … with many dried fruits variations….

DSC_0928_Edited

A mini bakery as well…

Last on the list… my favourite pastries and sweet treats delights !! It’s like I took dozens of pictures for these section ok… don’t say I am bias.. but the colorful pastries and cakes just make anyone drool.

DSC_0982

Did you see that ?? Chocolate mousse served in red chillies ?? Amazing way to incorporate spice into pastries.

Why is everything so dainty and sweet ?!

The Square goes Peranakan as well with these colourful Nonya Kuehs…

DSC_0940_edited

And there’s a 3-tier high chocolate fondue as well !!

DSC_0947_Edited

I got new ideas to display cake pops and fondue condiments from these !! Wonderful set of displays, aren’t they ?
